The first day of daycare is always big day of excitement but also that of anxiety and nerves -for the child and parent. Here's a few tips for that first day.
1-Bring your child along when interviewing prospective daycares. This allows them to become familiar with the surroundings, staff and potential new classmates. 2-Leave your child with other relatives for varying amounts of time. The idea is to have them become comfortable without you around. 3-Adapt daycare structure and routine in the home environment 4-Take your time in researching and interviewing prospective daycares. This will go a long way to help reassure you that your child will be just fine. 5- ECE Certified staff are trained to deal with upset children. When dropping off, stay calm give them a hug and reassure them that you will see them at the end of the day. Resist the urge to give in when they beg to go home with you. It will take some time but stick to it and in no time your child will look forward to daycare and soon enough they'll be begging to stay longer. How do you start your daycare search? Here's a few things to keep in mind.
1-Know your priorities. What do you value in a daycare? Location? Services? 2-Do your research! 3-Visit & Interview. Look for centres that fit your needs and meet your priorities. 4-Check References (no references? RED FLAG!) 5-Kid Test it. Observe how staff interact with your child. This is a crucial step and tells much about a centre and its staff. 6-Get your name on that waitlist.. For more info, visit this Baby Centre Article |
